September 2011 Newsletter

Summer is winding down, the kids are going back to school & life is returning to a more quiet routine... So let's spice things up a bit!

Let's hit Shark's Cove for a few more awesome shore dives before we lose the fantastic conditions we've had up there this summer!  Or how about a night dive to explore the underwater world, with all it's nocturnal criiters, in the dark?!  Good times!

Now would be a great time to get your Advanced Open Water, Divemaster or even Instructor certifications too...the next Instructor Examination is coming up September 24 & 25!

Give us a shout & we'll fill you in on all the details & get you booked for all the spice your little heart (or maybe stomach) can stand!

Aloha,
Kit Welch

Please Welcome Our Newest Staff Member - Silvia Beurmann!

Silvia is one of our international staff members. She is a snowboard instructor and a rock climber from Switzerland. While there are plenty of mountains to climb and ski in Switzerland there aren't that many opportunities to scuba dive. After graduating in Biology she decided it was time for a gap year. She completed her open water certification in the warm waters of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. The diving motivated her to help protect the underwater environment. She volunteered for a company helping the Seychelles government set the fishing quota's and collecting data from reefs on the Mahe' Plateau. After returning home she applied to the University of Hawaii at Manoa in order to continue her education with a specialization in marine microbiology. Until the program starts Silvia will be enjoying diving with all of you!

September 2011 is Project AWARE's Kick-Off of a Year-Round "Dive Against Debris" Program!

Marine debris can come from great distances inland. It reaches even the most remote places of the world's ocean. It floats on the surface, ends up on beaches, and sinks to the ocean floor. It clogs crutial habitats like mangroves and smothers corals. It is responsible for the death of thousands of marine animals and seabirds every year.

Project AWARE's "Dive Against Debris" initiative combines underwater cleanups with critical data collection that helps address marine debris problems at their source. The data divers collect will present a compelling 360-degree view of debris issues and will help initiate policy change to prevent debris in the future.  Check out this link for more information:
