Instructor Development Course The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Development Course (IDC) is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the IDC, you'll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors may conduct a broad range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba to Divemaster.
PADI Instructor Rating:
  • Allows you to conduct the entire range of PADI programs - from Discover Scuba through Divemaster
  • PADI Instructors do things others can only daydream about
What do I need to start?
  • PADI Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized diver training organization
  • Have at least 60 logged dives that include night, deep and navigation dives
  • Completed EFR primary and secondary care training within 24 months (or equivalent)
  • Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months
  • 18 years of age
What will I do?
  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
  • Have at least 100 logged dives prior to entering a PADI Instructor Exam
Where do I go from here?

Once you have completed the IDC you will be scheduled to meet with a PADI examiner for the Instructor Examination. This is a two day examination that ensures you have mastered the skills learned in your IDC. Once you pass your examination, you will be an Open Water Scuba Instructor!

For two weeks, these guys did classroom presentations, simulated classes in pool sessions & open water and practiced rescues. They poured over dive theory, dive tables, equipment and environment. On Sept 24 & 25th they're skills were tested by a PADI examiner. They passed with flying colors!
